YouTube is not TV. We are a different audience.
Following all the election videos I have watched so far, all of them just tell us what to think, without any reason, information, evidence or any credible detail on why.
The current tatics will work for a older audience. One that watches shows like Judge Judy, Who wants to be a millionaire, Collectors, Deal or no Deal, and of course, The seven o’clock news.
But for an audience that has grown up in the information age. We are not subject to enforced monopolistic beliefs and views. When told what to think or do, we ask “why?”. We let facts and evidence do the talking, not words. The only times we see racism, sexism or any discrimation is when it is being apologised for. We are the digital audience, and we are the future.
Liberals counter: Rudd is big bully.
Liberals respond to Labors youTube video “Another day, another stale scare campaign from Mr Howard” with their own counter attack “It’s scrutiny, not a scare campaign”.
Howard takes the technique Rudd used with playing the oponents video. Which is good as it shows what the video is responding to, but does not provide enough of the video to know what the previous one was about, and neither does his following argument.
Howard’s only response to Rudd’s statements is “It’s not a scare campaign to point out the facts” with the rest of the video being a attack to Rudd’s campaigns. Again with no explanation on why his campaigns are evil, but just the enforcement that they are. It closes with a nice quote “Grow up Mr. Rudd".
Labor attacks: Howard is scarying you.
Labor’s recent youTube video “Another day, another stale scare campaign from Mr Howard”, is yet another childish video.
It starts with a tiny sample of a Howard video, and then goes into telling us what to believe about Howard and his campaigns, as well as not why Rudd’s campaign is better, but instead, that it just is with no reasons, information, or proof on why.
GetUp: Election Campaigns: Be Heard
GetUp lets you have a voice in the election campaigns. It provides a listing of some of the popular election campaigns, which you can view details and success rates for. If you want, you can join the petition for the campaign making the campaign gain popularity and hopefully be taken under consideration.
Some of the ones I have signed up for include:
Homosexual Equal Rights
Have our own opinions for Iraq, not Bush’s
Action on Climate Change
The Democrats AKA Cold Hard Bitches
The Democrats are playing the role of the cold hard bitches of the election.
Their youTube channel is filled with videos attacking their opposition, with the goal of: Telling us what to think, instead of informing us on why they think that way.
You can see their intro video here. It starts with inappropriate Australian slang being used to offer patronism to being a pain in the ass. It then closes with “And we are still just as bitchy. We are the Democrats.".
An example of the goal mentioned above can be seen in this video here. Were instead of informing us on what John Howard’s citzenship test actually says so we can understand their view on the matter, it uses biased brief summaries to tell us what to think.
