B2evolution

This is a practice run for the hackathon. Next week is my study break for university, so I will be able to do some much needed work on my b2evolution projects.

So I figure why not expand the work a bit, and make it a online conference, so that other people can learn from the experience, as well as talking with me directly.

It will be done via Windows Vista’s remote abilities, or if you know better, please suggest.

Anyway, I plan to work on my b2evolution projects for 2 days, and have the proper conference going for a few hours on one day. So please post which times in GMT+00:00 you will be available, so I can do the proper conference at the best time.

By the end of the month I plan to get a new wave of updated versions of all my plugins out. The update will just be refined code, and the usage of jQuery instead of Scriptaculous. Here are some more detailed things to come.

Gallery Plugin:
The new release is codenamed “Horizon” and feature list includes:
1) Themes will be (downloadable) extensions
2) Security, it will now work with the b2evo database for permissions
3) Galleries and Images are now separate (So galleries can now have titles and descriptions)
4) A all new and improved manager, using the jQuery library. (and hopefully drag n’ drop for images to order them!)
5) Individual settings for each image size type (small medium large) and the option to use a image size or not.
6) Better installation experience
7) Better error reporting
8) Better integration with b2evolution
9) A Gallery Manager! (So that you can view all your galleries!)
10) Upgrade support for the 1.2.5 releases.
11) Support for any GD2 supported image type (not just jpeg!)
12) Multi-Lingual
13) Plugins…
14) A wordpress plugin

Avatars Plugin:
The new version will be refined to conform with the latest updates, and will feature:
1) Skin Selection for Avatars (So Avatars can be unique to skins).

There are a few new plugins that I want to do, but I will save that for later.

B2evo user Austriaco has made the plugin “DNS Antispam Trackback” which checks the ip address of the host sending the trackback with the ip address of the host that is inside of the trackback, if the trackback is legit then they should be the same.

So far it works perfectly on this blog, no trackback spam at all, so well done. If any of you want to test sending trackbacks, send it to this post. For you lazy people, here.

Update: Austriaco has release v0.2 which should fix the wordpress.com problems.

The Avatars Plugin allows you to attach avatars (display pictures, gravatars, profile pics, etc) to a user, blog, post and category. You upload avatars within the b2evo adminstration, with either a large or small (or both) avatar images. If a large avatar image is specified then lightbox functionality is seen, as when the user clicks the small avatar, the large avatar will show in a lightbox. It makes use of the GD2 Image and the Gallery Plugin’s Libraries allowing for images to be resized and compressed to specified values.
